  • There is widespread concern at the imminent prospect of Mongolia’s placer deposits being left with no gold. At present their reserves are put at 57 tonnes, and as between 22 tonnes and 25 tonnes are annually extracted from them, the gold is likely to be exhausted by the end of the decade. The country will still have hard rock gold deposits holding 476.7 tonnes of reserves but putting them into economic circulation, and doing this quickly, would not be easy. 
  • The overall impression at the end of the 16th Discover Mongolia, held in Ulaanbaatar on 6-7 September, was positive for the Mongolian mining sector. The annual international conference is a major platform for wide-ranging discussions on the sector, bringing together investors and members of the Mongolian Government. 
  • Young professionals perform the bulk of the work in many organizations and institutions in Mongolia, including in the mining sector. In the government bureaucracy, young professionals are often the first to draft policy documents, thereby contributing to the process of policy discussions and changes.
  • Mining Investment Asia, South East Asia’s largest mining investment conference, was successfully held in Marina Bay Sands, Singapore from 28 – 31 March, bringing together more than 300 global and regional investors, miners and service providers for networking and business partnerships.

  • CRIRSCO, which was formed in 1994 under the auspices of the Council of Mining and Metallurgical Institutes (CMMI), is a grouping of representatives of organisations that are responsible for developing mineral reporting codes and guidelines in Australasia (JORC), Brazil (CBRR), Canada (CIM), Chile (National Committee), Europe (PERC), Kazakhstan (KAZRCA), Mongolia (MPIGM), Russia (NAEN), South Africa (SAMREC) and the USA (SME). The combined value of mining companies listed on the stock exchanges of these countries accounts for more than 80% of the listed capital of the mining industry.
  • Mining Investment Asia is a strategic mining conference and exhibition for the leaders of the mining, quarrying and construction materials industries, bringing together 800 attendees from 35 countries.
